Friend Makin’ Mondays – Before Photos

If you’ve taken part in FMM then you know the rules. FMM: Before Photos

1. Are you on a weight-loss journey? Have you lost weight in the past? Are you trying to lose it now? Yes. Although I’ve technically reached my destination, the fact is, maintenance is an on-going part of the journey. Vigilance is still required, or the weight WILL come back. I’m still trying to lose 5 more pounds to get back down to goal as I gained over the holidays!
2. Do you like being in pictures, or do you shy away from the camera? Hate it. Even now, I still hate how I smile, that my eyes look crooked, etc. At my heaviest, I really hated it. I have almost no before photos.
3. Does looking at old photos of yourself motivate you? Not really. I tend to see them, flinch, and look away.
4. Weight-loss bloggers, do you post progress pictures on your blog? I’m not really a weight loss blogger, so no. I do post race pictures though. 😉
5. Will you share a before photo with us (even if you don’t have an after yet?) Yes. I have this one posted on my About Me page anyway. I weighed about 225 pounds in this picture. Not quite my highest, but it is not a very flattering picture, and I can’t tell the difference between then and my heaviest.

Now, I weigh in at ~143 pounds, and this was me on January 7 at the Walt Disney 1/2 Marathon.

I didn’t even mind having that photo taken!

Goals update: My run rocked, my hair dresser hid my grey and streaked me pink again, I was able to read a little, and I even got two blog posts written! I should have written more, this week is going to be tough, but I’ll figure it out.

Today’s goals:

1. Swim workout
2. Run workout
3. Write 1 blog post
4. About Me Page for other blog

    Finally catching up on blogs today since I have the day off. LUCKY ME!! I still can’t get over that before pic of you. You look like a completely different person. And I LOVE that Disney pic. I showed it to my husband when I was reading your race recaps a couple of weeks ago. He loved your hat LOL. Ok, off to read more of your posts and catch up!

      Sometimes I feel like a different person. My husband still loses me when we go shopping as he “forgets” what I look like! Makes me laugh. 🙂

    Awesome progress pics. And I also have a weird thing about hating my uneven eyes in a lot of pictures. If I stand kind of sideways, it bothers me less, but it’s still the first thing I notice (and hate) in photos of myself. Second is my very gummy smile when I’m very happy. We got married in Italy and brought a US photog w/ us primarily b/c I wanted no communication barrier to her giving me a signal to gum down my smile so I wouldn’t hate all the pictures! Haha.

      I can understand that! I never look at my wedding photos because I hate how I look (I was very heavy then). It’s such an important day, you want to look your best, and you want your photos to reflect that.

    Hi. I’m just stopping by from FMM. Amazing progress. You can tell that with the weight loss you are happier with the photo been taken. In your before picture you look a little uncomfortable but in your after you have a lovely nature smile. And way to go on running a half marathon. I’d love to be able to do that some day x

      Thank you! I am happier now, although I don’t think I’m happier because I lost the weight – I had to get happy first. Running was what helped me lose the weight – I was over 200 pounds when I did my first one in 2007. If you put your mind to it, you can do it!

    Your progress pictures are really stunning. I mean, your after photo looks like a younger sister (or even daughter) of the person in the before photo. It’s really remarkable and something that must make you feel so accomplished!

      Thank you! It’s funny, although I don’t feel super connected to the before pictures any more, it took a long time for me to feel like the person in the after photos! Looking into a mirror was like looking at a picture, because that person looking back at me couldn’t be ME.

      Thank you! It’s hard for me to share those pics – I have very few before photos for a reason, I avoided the camera like crazy back then.
