Rebecca over at Weight Wars (who I find very inspirational, BTW – I have no idea how she manages to organize these fabulous challenges and projects!) has launched a year long project called Happiness Online, based on Gretchen Ruben’s book The Happiness Project: Or, Why I Spent a Year Trying to Sing in the Morning, Clean My Closets, Fight Right, Read Aristotle, and Generally Have More Fun. (In the interest of full disclosure, this is an Amazon affiliate link).
The whole purpose of this project is to focus on improving our own happiness with our lives. I read the book, and although I found some of the ideas a little too zen for me, the fact is, I have found that my own happiness directly relates to staying on track with my weight loss/maintenance, my fitness… everything! Every month we will set resolutions around a theme (hey, monthly goals – no wonder I want to do this!) and work towards those goals.
August was about Contemplating the Heavens – or Spirituality. I set three goals, simply because this is not an area I feel particularly in touch with. How did I do?
1. Do More Yoga
I got to yoga more than once this month, but not once per week. To top it off, the first class I made it to made me completely crazy – not only was I not in touch with my spiritual self, I was ready to strangle the instructor for talking too much! So I’m not too happy with how this one went.
2. Run Without Music
Success! I have done almost all my runs without my iPod. Do I like it? It’s fine if I’m running with people. Running alone I prefer to have the music for company, especially if I’m running long. Short runs are fine though.
3. Read Scott Jurek’s Book
Fail, but only because the wait list for this book from my library is 14 people long. I read Chrissie Wellington’s book instead – it was very good. 🙂 She’s so inspiring! And I’ll read Scott’s book as soon as it is my turn.
Not a great month, but I’m not surprised, I wasn’t super engaged this month. September is coming, though, and I’m very excited about it!
Goals update: Had the best run workout I’ve had in a long, long time. I finally broke 45 minutes for 5.0 miles!! Yes, it was on the treadmill, but I did it. Menu planning didn’t happen, and my blog posts were mostly written already, thank goodness. Not perfect, but I’ll live.
1. 2 blog posts
2. Picnic with Bruce
3. 1 post it note from task wall
