Quick update first – I’ve been swimming, biking and running this week, even when I didn’t want to. So I’m happy about that, the voices are being shouted down. 🙂
One of my goals for the June Happiness Project was to meet some new people at my CMA conference this month; another was to reconnect with old friends. How about killing two birds with one stone? I ran into a few people I haven’t seen or talked to in years, include an old mentor of mine who had a huge influence on my career more than 12 years ago. It was such a pleasure talking to him again, catching up a little, and before I arrived home, he’d sent a Linkedin connection request. I’m thrilled we’ll be able to stay in touch now. Although I knew he’d had a big impact on my career, he sure seemed surprised when I thanked him for his guidance. That conversation was the highlight of my day yesterday.
I did meet a couple of new people, but it was so HARD! I swear, most accountants are shy introverts by nature – you put 400 of us in a room, and there are a LOT of awkward silences. By the end of the conference, I was so tired of a) being the first to initiate conversations most of the time, and b) being an absolute novelty (you’re a Casino Manager? Really?) It was like I had two heads. 😛
Now for the rest of the month I have to focus on reconnecting with some other folks I’ve lost touch with, inviting people over, and generally being more sociable. 🙂
Goals update: I did pretty good. I wrote several blog posts, way more than 2. I figured out a menu plan until Sunday. I did comment on blogs – I may have hit 15, or maybe a couple less, but I did OK. And although it was hard, I got my brick workout done.
1. 1 workout – what will be determined by the weather.
2. Finish 2 blog posts.
3. Comment on 15+ blogs again.
