Strength Training

I’ve never been a fan of weight training. I know I need to do it, but I hate it, so I avoid it. For most of the summer, I have sporadically used our Bowflex to try to gain strength. This past week, I also went to the weight room at the gym, and last night I did floor exercises (planks, back extensions, ab work).

Ow. Ow, ow, ow. Oh my, this is why I don’t like strength training – it HURTS! I know it’s good for me. I’m going to keep doing it. I also know if I want to ever consider qualifying for a police job, I need to build strength. And so I continue, hoping that eventually the muscle soreness will pass and I’ll learn to like weights. After all, it took me 18 months to learn to love to run. 🙂 I’ll get there.

Update on yesterday’s mini goals:

1) Coaching homework started, but not finished – work got really busy
2) Afghan strip done
3) Planks & core work done
4) Consulting research started

Goals for Thursday:

1) Bowflex workout or bike ride
2) Finish coaching homework
3) 1 afghan strip
4) Bed before 11:30

It is OW OW OW, BUT it’s a GOOD OW OW OW! 🙂 It’s something you did FOR your body and not TO your body on accident.

Don’t get me wrong…I know how much it can OW OW OW and it makes me stabby sometimes! But it feels amazing later. 🙂

Yeah, it is…. I’m just so GOOD at quitting things I don’t like if I don’t have a real purpose! So I’m trying to stick it out, knowing eventually I will learn to like it.
