Weekly Update – February 17, 2013

This is a 2 weeks update, as last week I didn’t post at all – it was a crazy week on many fronts. Work was busy, I had two board meetings and a networking event, and I had lunch with a girlfriend I hadn’t seen in ages (yay! That one was a lot of fun!). I’m trying to stay on top of things, but it’s tough. Early morning workouts are a real challenge right now as I’m not sleeping super well – I finally took a sleeping pill on Friday and had an excellent, dream free sleep – almost 9 hours! Most nights it is 6 or less, and I have very vivid dreams so I wake up feeling unrested. Need to work on that!

My weight is up this week. I’d been feeling incredibly tired and sluggish, and I was doing some research on Vegan diets – often, Vegans don’t eat enough calories. I’m trying not to add in a bunch of “bad” calories (although I am eating more popcorn and a few chips… yes, Vegan junk food. 🙁 ). I’m eating more nuts, a little more tofu, etc. to ensure I’m getting both enough calories and enough protein. Is that why I’m up? Maybe, although I suspect sodium and water retention are the bigger culprits. I’m not going to sweat it for now.

So… my bikes are going well. 🙂 My runs have just been sucking. And because they’ve been so hard, and not fun, I have no motivation to do them, which means they are the first thing I blow off if I have a time crunch. Considering our first marathon is on ~13 weeks, I can’t afford to keep doing this! As for my swims, I do great once I get to the pool, I’m just struggling to actually get there. I’m writing a mid-month 13 in 13 update post where I’ll address some of these challenges a little more.

    Your bikes really are going well! Cycling is the one thing that I just do not do enough of. I definitely know what lack of sleep can feel like! Hope you fall into a good sleeping/eating pattern soon 🙂

      Bruce & I keep thinking my Garmin is reading my distance/speed wrong (we’re sure of it, actually!), but we can’t find the problem, s until we do, I get to pretend I’m riding really fast!! 🙂 But the best part is, I’m spending the time in the saddle, and enjoying it too. My Sunday run finally felt awesome, so that was a real bonus.
