It’s Boxing Day here in Canada, which means no work for me; because of my custody agreement with my ex, today is the day we are celebrating our Christmas as my boys are home with me as of noon today.
We will spend the day unwrapping gifts (well, the kids will – Bruce & I bought new bikes this year, so no presents for us!!), having a lovely dinner of roast beef, yorkshire pudding, roasted potatoes and pumpkin pie, and generally hanging out. Tomorrow, life returns to normal.
My new normal has been a struggle to adjust to – I’m working Monday-Friday, 8-5… except it’s rare I’m out of the office by 5, and I’m usually in the office before 8 unless I swim in the morning first. It makes for long, tiring, days and little time to do many of the things I used to do. I’m not complaining – I really like the new job, and I am not sorry I made the change, but finding a way to balance my new life has been a real challenge!
Training for IMMT starts December 31. We have a plan (we’re following Joe Friel’s training as outlined in his book, Your Best Triathlon). It involves a lot of workouts, and a lot of hours. Somehow, I have to juggle it all.
My eating has been a wreck over the holidays, that gets reined back in on January 2. I have definitely determined that sugar is a major problem for me (not that I didn’t know that before, it just reared it’s ugly head again during the holidays). I’m starting January not just with a training plan, but also with a full blown menu plan – daily, meal by meal. Whatever it takes, right?
As for on a personal front, I started work on a new tattoo last week (was it only last week? Time flies….). I got the outline done first, I get it all coloured in in a few more weeks. (Which will throw off my training by just a little, but it’s so early it won’t matter). Here’s how it looks so far:
I hate trying to visualize how it will look when it is just black and skin – the colour will make it look like a completely different tattoo. But I loved how he combined all the elements of triathlon in one big collage piece. Can’t wait until it is done!
Over the next week, I have a 2012 wrap up post planned, then a goals for 2013 – I’m participating in Rebecca’s 13 in 13 challenge, so I’m trying to choose my goals wisely. One of my goals will be to get back to blogging more regularly – I doubt I will ever blog daily again, but I’d like to aim for at least weekly, perhaps even twice a week. That should be manageable.
It’s hard to believe 2012 is coming to a close – I can’t wait to see what 2013 has in store for us all!
